Avoiding Malpractice Claims
At noon on March 28, 2017, at the Madison Club, Tom Watson and Matt Beier of Wisconsin Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company (WILMIC) will give a presentation on how to avoid malpractice claims.
Thomas J. Watson is Senior Vice President and Director of Communications, Marketing & Risk Management at Wisconsin Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company (WILMIC). He oversees Underwriting and Claims, and develops and coordinates the company’s risk management programs and law firm and lawyer outreach. He is a 1981 Marquette University graduate with a degree in Journalism and Broadcast Communications and a 2002 graduate of Marquette University Law School. Watson was the Public Relations Coordinator for the State Bar of Wisconsin for more than seven years, and was then in private practice in Madison, focused mainly on Family Law, before joining WILMIC in 2005.
Matt Beier is a Claims Attorney with Wisconsin Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company (WILMIC). He works with lawyers to resolve malpractice claims made against policyholders. Prior to joining WILMIC, Matt was a civil litigation attorney with experience before Wisconsin administrative agencies as well as in state and federal courts. He has broad experience in diverse areas of the law, including personal injury, employment law, contract law, business law, commercial law, and debtor/creditor law. Matt has represented local and national clients, including individuals, state and local municipalities, health care systems, financial institutions, small businesses, and retailers. Matt earned his B.A. degree, with high honors, in 1996 from South Dakota State University where he was also a football player for the Jackrabbits. He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2000.
